Does teething cause fever, diarrhea, or a runny nose?

A mild increase in temperature is common while teething, but there’s no proof that it causes a fever. Why teething symptoms may be confused with cold symptoms?

The most common teething symptoms are excessive drooling, constant need to chew, swollen gums, and crankiness (14). Meanwhile, symptoms of a cold in babies are initially a slight rise in body temperature, stuffy nose, and nasal discharge (15). Both conditions cause pain and discomfort to the baby, but their symptoms vary and should not be confused with the other.
