Origin, Meaning, And History Of Sultan
Sultan is an Arabic name for boys and means ‘king’ or ‘ruler.’ Although it is traditionally used for boys, the name is given to both genders in countries like Turkey. As an abstract Arabic noun, it indicates strength and authority. The name is derived from the Arabic word Sultah, meaning ‘authority’ and ‘power.’
Interestingly, the name was borne by several ruling figures in the Muslim world during the early and later Middle Ages. It was also the name of the monarch of the Ottoman Empire.
One of the earliest bearers of the name is the Ghaznavid ruler Mahmud (r. 998–1030 CE), who ruled present-day Afghanistan and the surrounding region. The Great Seljuks adopted the name Sultan when they conquered the Ghaznavid Empire and started ruling an even greater area of what is today Baghdad, the capital of the Abbasid caliphs. Even today, several ruling monarchs from Brunei, Malaysia, and Oman use Sultan as their title.
Sultana is the feminine variant of Sultan in Arabic, Urdu, and Bengali languages. Other variations of the name include Sulton in Tajik, Uzbek, Kazakh, and Kyrgyz cultures. The name was borne by several eminent personalities. Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was the Saudi defense minister from 1963 to 2011. He was also the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia from 2005 to 2011. Sultan Kosen holds the Guinness World Record for being the tallest male alive at 251 cm. In popular culture, Sultan is a famous fictional character in Disney’s Aladdin franchise.

Sultan’s Zodiac Sign As Per Western Astrology
Western astrology includes the construction of a horoscope based on the person’s exact time of birth and location to understand the positions of the planet, stars, and zodiac signs at that time. However, in popular culture, it is often narrowed down to the sun sign, which depends on the person’s birth date. There are 12 zodiac signs, each having dominant traits, planetary rulers, elemental connection, and more.
Zodiac sign or Sun sign
The Earth’s orbit around the sun is divided into 12 zodiac signs covering 30-degree sectors. According to Western astrology, the zodiac or sun sign depends on the sun’s position in one of these sectors at the time of your birth. Starting from the sun’s position at the March equinox, the chart goes anti-clockwise from Aries, followed by Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. These signs are ruled by planetary bodies - Mars, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Furthermore, they are categorized into triplicities or elemental signs - fire, water, air, and earth - that govern their characteristics. Each of these zodiac signs features certain personality traits that may determine how a person presents themselves.
Why the date of birth matters
Each zodiac sign in Western astrology is linked to a specific range of dates in the year. Unlike Vedic astrology, where names can sometimes be used to infer astrological details, Western astrology relies entirely on the birth date.
