And it doesn’t change when they move to college. Munching and snacking are probably two or their favorite things ever. How many times have we as teens found ourselves wandering off to the fridge at 2 in the morning looking for something to eat?
Your quest for snack ideas will come to an end as we bring you 9 after-school snack ideas for hungry teens:
1. Feta Dip
Ingredients:
- Feta cheese – 8 oz
- Sour cream – 1/2 cup
- Mayonnaise – 1/2 cup
- Lemon zest – 1 lemon
- Chopped garlic – 1 clove
- Dried dill – 1/4 tsp
- Dried oregano – 1/4 tsp
- Dried thyme – 1/4 tsp
- Salt and pepper to taste
Blend all the ingredients in a blender until smooth. Move it into a serving bowl and drizzle some olive oil and toasted sesame seeds on top. You can have it with baguettes or in your salad.
2. Savoury Cheese Muffin
Ingredients:
- Salted butter – 3 tbsp
- Crushed garlic – 2 cloves
- Grated cheddar cheese – 2 cups
Dry ingredients:
- All-purpose flour – 2 cups
- Baking soda – 1/2 tsp
- Baking powder – 1/2 tsp
- Salt – 1/2 tsp
Wet ingredients:
- Egg – 1
- Milk – 1 cup
- Sour cream – 1/4 cup
- Vegetable oil – 1/4 cup
- Freshly chopped parsley – 1/4 cup
- Crushed garlic – 1 clove
Preheat oven to 180-degree Celcius. Melt the butter and garlic and combine them well. Prepare the muffin tin by greasing with butter and some garlic. Mix the dry and wet ingredients in two separate bowls. Now pour the wet mix into the bowl of dry ingredients and combine well. Add the cheese to it and make sure it is blended well into the mix. Divide the batter equally into each muffin tin and let it bake for close to 30 minutes or until it’s done. After moving it on to a cooling rack, slather the remaining butter on top.
3. Cinnamon Apple Chips
Ingredients:
- Apples – 2
- Cinnamon powder
Preheat the oven to 200-degree Celcius. Now prepare your cookie sheet by lining it with parchment paper. Set it aside.
Cut the apple into thin slices using a vegetable slicer or a knife. Place them in rows on the parchment paper. Sprinkle a generous amount of cinnamon powder on top. Now pop it into the oven and bake for about 3 hours. Set a timer and once it goes off, turn off the oven and let it sit there for an hour longer.
4. Parmesan Zucchini Fries
Ingredients:
- Zucchinis – 3 (small)
- Eggs – 2
- Panko bread crumbs – 2 cups
- Grated Parmesan cheese – 1/2 cups
- Salt and ground black pepper to taste
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and keep it aside.
Next, cut the zucchinis into medium-sized strips. Beat the eggs adding salt and pepper. On a plate, mix the bread crumbs and cheese. Now dip the zucchini strips into the egg mix. Take it out and hold it for a few seconds to remove any excess coating. Roll the strip in the panko mixture making sure it is coated well on all sides. Now transfer it into the baking sheet. Follow the same process for the rest of the strips. Bake it for about 25 minutes until it’s cooked through by rotating the sheet.
5. Yogurt Pops
Ingredients:
- Plain yogurt – 1/2 cup
- Milk – 1/2 cup
- Honey – 3 tbsp
- Chia seeds – 2 tbsp
- Sliced kiwi – 2
In a bowl, combine all the ingredients except kiwi. Place the sliced kiwi into each popsicle mold and spoon the yogurt mix into each one. Insert a wooden stick into the mold and pop it inside the refrigerator to freeze for about 3- 4 hours.
6. Chocolate-dipped Banana Peanut Butter Bites
Ingredients:
- Bananas – 2-3
- Peanut butter – 1/3 cup
- Chocolate chips/chocolate bar – 1/2 cup
Slice the banans into small chunks. Take a spoon and slather the peanut butter generously between two slices of banana. Place them over a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for about an hour. Next, melt the chocolate using the double boiler method or using a microwave in 15-second bursts. Add a splash of melted butter or vegetable oil if you wish. Dip one side of the banana- peanut slice with melted chocolate and place it back in the parchment paper to be frozen completely. Once done, store it in a closed lid container in the freezer.
7. Turkey Avocado Cheese Sandwich
Ingredients:
- Bread – 4 slices
- Cooked turkey bacon – 4 – 6 slices
- Mozzarella slices – 4 – 6
- Sliced avocado – 1
- Sliced tomato – 1
- Butter – 2 tbsp
- Basil leaves
Using a knife, butter a side of the two slices of bread and place it on a skillet with the buttered side down. Now top it with bacon, avocado, tomato, and mozzarella. Place the second slice of bread on top and keep it on a skillet over medium heat. Let it cook for a few minutes on each side until it turns golden brown and crispy on the outside and the cheese melts. Serve hot.
8. Apple Peanut Butter Chocolate Chips
Ingredients:
- Apple (sliced) – 1
- Peanut butter – 3 tbsp
- Chocolate chips and walnut mix – 1/4 cup
Cut the apple into round slices with medium thickness. Using a knife, slather a generous amount of peanut butter on one side. Sprinkle some chocolate chips and walnuts on top.
9. Salt Pretzel Bites
Ingredients:
- Pizza dough – 1 package
- Egg – 1
- Baking soda – 1 1/3 cup
- Warm water – 1/4 cup
- Rock salt
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Celcius. In a small bowl, mix baking soda and warm water to make a baking soda bath. Divide the pizza dough into small bite sizes. Next, dip each piece of pizza dough into the baking soda bath. Now place the pieces on a baking sheet. In a bowl, whisk an egg and brush it over the pretzel dough. Sprinkle it with some rock salt and bake for about 50 minutes or until it looks golden brown on the outside. Your salt pretzel bites are now ready!
