What Exactly Is A Pregnancy Test?

A pregnancy test examines the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin hormone (hCG) in your urine. Your body makes this hormone when you are pregnant, and releases it when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining (2).

You can get a home pregnancy test kit from pharmacy stores or online. Follow the instructions on the kit carefully to get the right result. If the test result is positive, it means you are pregnant. The test kit gives accurate answers when you use it a few days after you miss your period (3).

How Accurate Are Online Pregnancy Tests?

An online pregnancy test is a questionnaire you fill out about your symptoms and periods to see if you might be pregnant. Unlike real pregnancy tests that check your urine for pregnancy hormones, these online tools only use the information you provide. They can help you recognize early signs of pregnancy, but they cannot tell you for certain if you are pregnant.

The questions included in the online pregnancy test are those that a gynecologist usually asks during the first prenatal appointment.

The accuracy of the online test depends on the accuracy of your answers. While the online test result could indicate a possible result, it is not a replacement for medical consultation and formal pregnancy tests. However, you can take the free online test several times to compare the results.

When To Take MomJunction’s Online Pregnancy Test?

Ideally, you should wait until the day your period is due. Around this time, the level of the pregnancy hormones increases, probably resulting in early symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, sore breasts, fatigue, and spotting or cramping due to implantation (4).

If you are experiencing these symptoms, answering the simple questions based on them can help you determine if you are pregnant or not.

What Are The Advantages Of Taking Online Pregnancy Test?

Online pregnancy tests offer several practical benefits for women who suspect they might be pregnant but aren’t ready for a physical test yet. These digital assessments can serve as a helpful first step in your pregnancy journey. Here are a few benefits of online pregnancy tests.

  • You can take the test without any registration or sharing your details.
  • You can take the test multiple times, and have free, unrestricted access to the results.
  • You can take it from the comfort of your home.
  • It provides a quick preliminary assessment based on symptoms, helping you decide if you should take a medical test.
  • It is completely non-invasive and does not require urine or blood samples.
  • It helps reduce anxiety by giving an immediate response without waiting for a physical test.
  • It can be useful for those who do not have immediate access to a pharmacy or medical facility.

How Does The ‘Online Pregnancy Test – Am I Pregnant Quiz’ Work?

The MomJunction online pregnancy test is designed with a set of questions that are based on the ovulation cycle, the number of times you have had intercourse, the type of birth control methods you were using, and symptoms you are experiencing. We have also included questions about basal temperature and implantation. The results will depend on the answers you choose.

Whether or not you get a positive result in this quiz, you should get a pregnancy test done or visit a doctor if you miss your period.

Can You Take The Online Pregnancy Quiz Before A Missed Period?

Ideally, you should wait until you miss your period and then take the pregnancy quiz.
Taking a pregnancy quiz online before you’ve missed your period probably won’t give you accurate results. Early pregnancy symptoms like feeling tired, having mood swings, or experiencing mild cramps can also happen during your regular menstrual cycle (5). These symptoms aren’t unique to pregnancy, so the quiz might give you the wrong information. Without a missed period or other clear pregnancy signs, these quizzes can’t really tell the difference between regular premenstrual symptoms and early pregnancy signs.

Does a Missed Period Mean You Are Pregnant?

Not necessarily. You can miss a period due to several reasons other than pregnancy (6).

  • Hormone problems like PCOS or thyroid issues can make periods irregular
  • Some medications, including birth control, can affect your cycle
  • Too much exercise or sudden weight changes can stop ovulation
  • Severe stress from major life events, such as exams, job issues, or relationship changes

If you regularly miss periods or notice ongoing changes to your cycle, it’s best to talk with a doctor to find out what might be causing it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I take an online pregnancy test on my mobile device? Yes, most online pregnancy tests work well on mobile devices.
  • What should I do if I get a positive result from a free online pregnancy test? If a free online pregnancy test returns a positive result, you should get a home pregnancy test kit to confirm it. If it also shows a positive result, speak to an Ob/GYN to confirm the results.
